SAYING GOODBYE TO YOUR PET
Making the decision to say goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult decisions a family can face. At Selsdon Veterinary Surgery, we are committed to making this process as peaceful, dignified, and compassionate as possible for both you and your pet.

WHAT TO EXPECT
When the time comes, one of our veterinary surgeons will discuss the procedure with you in detail and answer any questions you may have. We will also talk you through all available aftercare options, allowing you to make the choice that feels right for you and your family.

Family members are welcome to attend the appointment, and owners are welcome to stay with their pet throughout the entire procedure if they wish. Equally, if you feel unable to be present, our caring team will remain with your pet and ensure they are never alone.

Where possible, we try to schedule euthanasia appointments during quieter periods of the day, often in the early afternoon or towards the end of the day. This allows owners additional private time with their pet before and after the procedure and helps create a calm, unhurried environment.

The procedure itself is gentle and painless. Your pet will first be made comfortable, and in many cases a sedative may be administered to help them relax. Once you are ready, a final injection is given which allows your pet to peacefully pass away. Our team will guide you through each step and give you as much time as you need.
AFTERCARE OPTIONS
Following your pet's passing, we offer several aftercare options.

Home Burial
Some owners find comfort in bringing their pet home for burial in a special place.
If you choose this option, your pet can be taken home with you following the appointment. There is no charge for home burial.
Please ensure that any home burial arrangements comply with local regulations and take place on land where you have permission to do so.

Communal Cremation
With communal cremation, your pet is cremated alongside other pets.
Following cremation, the ashes are respectfully scattered in a memorial garden by the crematorium, and no ashes are returned to the owner.
This option provides a dignified and respectful farewell for your pet.
Prices vary according to your pet's size and weight. Please see our pricing table below.

Individual Cremation
With individual cremation, your pet is cremated separately from other animals.
Your pet's ashes are then returned to you, allowing you to keep them at home, scatter them in a meaningful location, or place them in a memorial urn.
Many families find comfort in having their pet's ashes returned as a lasting tribute to the life they shared together.
Prices vary according to your pet's size and weight. Please see our pricing table below.

We are also happy to provide a fur clipping upon request. If this is something you would like, please let a member of our team know and we will ensure it is prepared for you with care.
