PET INSURANCE
Pet insurance can help provide peace of mind when unexpected illness or injury occurs. At Selsdon Veterinary Surgery, we are happy to assist with insurance claims and work with most major UK pet insurance providers to help make the process as smooth as possible.

Standard Claims

For most insurance claims, payment for treatment is required on the day of your appointment or procedure. Once payment has been made:
-
We complete and submit the claim documentation on your behalf.
-
Your insurer will assess the claim and reimburse you directly according to your policy terms.
-
Any policy excess, co-payments, exclusions, or non-claimable items (such as prescription diets, food, clothing, or routine healthcare products) will be deducted by your insurer.

Direct Claims
In limited circumstances, we may be able to accept direct claims, where the insurer pays Selsdon Veterinary Surgery directly.
This option is generally only available for treatment costs exceeding £800 and requires pre-authorisation before treatment is carried out.
If a direct claim is approved, you will still be responsible for paying:
-
Any policy excess
-
Any exclusions or non-covered items
-
A £20 administration fee (applies to the initial claim only)
Pre-Authorisation
If you are considering a direct claim, please contact your insurance provider before treatment. Requirements and approval processes vary between insurers.
Please note that pre-authorisation can only be arranged for procedures performed at Selsdon Veterinary Surgery. Referral hospitals and specialist centres operate their own insurance procedures and billing policies.
Claims Involving Other Veterinary Practices
We can only process claims relating to treatment carried out at another veterinary practice if part of the treatment has also been provided by Selsdon Veterinary Surgery.
In these cases:
-
A £20 administration fee will apply.
-
You must obtain a copy of the invoice and relevant clinical history from the other practice and provide these to us.
-
We cannot request records on your behalf without your permission.
Processing Times
Insurance claims can take up to three weeks to process, depending on the complexity of the claim and the insurer involved. We recommend checking your policy documents for any claim submission deadlines to ensure your claim remains valid.
